Funeral services for Hollis Narvell Jackson, Sr. of Picayune, Miss. will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at the Hart’s Chapel Baptist Church in Derby, Miss. where Rev. George Tillman serves as Pastor.
Pastor K. Martin Thomas Jr. will officiate at the service.
Hollis N. Jackson, Sr. was born September 30, 1938 to the late A. D. Jackson, Sr. and Rosa Jackson in Wiergrate, Texas. He moved to Baldwin County, Ala. in 1940 and then to Hart’s Chapel in Poplarville, Miss. in 1941.
In 1946, the family moved to Lumberton, Miss. He graduated high school from Lamar County High School in 1957, and then attended Alcorn University. At the age of 23, he moved to New York. Upon his return to Mississippi, he moved to Lumberton and united with Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon. When Hollis moved to Picayune, Miss., he united with New Hebron Baptist Church. He united in Holy matrimony with Darnell Trust on March 17, 2001. Hollis served on the Deacon Board, as well as choir member, Sunday School Superintendent, Adult Sunday School Teacher, Spring Hill BTU Sunday School Congress, Male Chorus, Vacation Bible School Adult Teacher, and Spring Hill District Association until his health began to fail. He loved singing, fishing, children and church.
Hollis entered into eternal rest and peace on Friday, March 31, 2017 at the age of 79.
He was preceded in death by his parents, A.D. Jackson, Sr. and Rosa Jackson; two brothers, A.D. Jackson, Jr. and Isaiah (Janell) of Houston, Texas; and one sister, Glennice (Richie) Nesbitt of Charleston, S.C.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 16 years, Darnell Jackson; 9 children, Hollies (RaeShawn Davis) Jackson of Gulfport, Miss., Derwin (Shantel) Phelgm of Poplarville, Miss., Dremicka Jackson of Wiggins, Miss., Lynol (Lynda) Jackson of Detroit, Mich., George (Alice) Clark of Bendale, Miss., Elia (Marty) Fortenberry of Jackson, Miss., Tyrone (Debra) Noel, Jacqueline Woodard, Darlene  Price, all of Picayune, Miss., 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; one loving brother, Hubert (Katie) Jackson, Sr. of Biloxi, Miss.; and one loving sister, Robbin (the late Leonard) Cooke of Lumberton, Miss.; and a host of nieces nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be at the Hart’s Chapel Baptist Church one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be at the New Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery in Carriere, Miss. Entrusted Brown’s Funeral Home
