This weekend Pearl River County children will have several opportunities to hunt for Easter eggs.
Communities and churches are organizing a variety of events across the county, preventing families from having to drive long distances to bring their children to a fun filled scavenger hunt for holiday themed eggs.
Saturday an Easter egg hunt will be held at the Walkiah Park, said Park Manager Bobby Robbins. He said he organized the event as a way to create community interest in the park.
The event is sponsored by the Nicholson Volunteer Fire Department and Pine Grove Baptist Church. Robbins said the event will start at 3 p.m. Youth from the church will hide the eggs before younger kids will be permitted to find them. This event is for children 10-years-old and younger.
Central Baptist Church will also hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt at the McNeill walking track next to the McNeill Volunteer Fire Department, said Bro. Billy Galloway. This event will be held Friday at 9 a.m. While the eggs are being hidden, the children will be provided with crafts and refreshments. Everyone is invited to this event.
In Poplarville, children can attend the Poplarville Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Easter egg hunt, set for Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. This event is for children 9-years and younger and will be held on the town green on Main Street. Easter baskets will be provided to the first 48 children who arrive at the event, and special prizes will be provided by local sponsors. Children will be split into individual age groups for this event and parents or guardians will be able to provide assistance to special needs children.
For children living in the Henleyfield area, members of Henleyfield.COMmunity Inc., are teaming up with Byrd’s Chapel Methodist Church and New Henleyfield Baptist Church to hold an event Staurday at the Henleyfield Community Center on Highway 43 North. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and feature an egg hunt, kite flying, and games.
Games at the event will include corn hole, an egg race, sack race and an egg toss, Fortenberry said. Children will bring the eggs they find at this event to a counter where they will receive a bag of candy so the eggs can be reused next year, Fortenberry said.
Children should keep an eye out for special eggs worth prizes during this event.
Lunch will also be available for purchase, said Henleyfield.COMmunity Inc. Treasurer Loren Dawn Fortenberry. For $5 participants can choose from a hot dog, chilibun or nachos, which also comes with a drink and chips.
