To help a local family facing the medical expenses of their 2-year-old son Blake Grice, a life-long friend and local artist is organizing an event entitled Bikes for Grice on March 25.
Josh Lee has been a friend of Blake’s father, Jason Grice, since junior high school, and has wanted to help the family after they got the news about Blake Grice’s rare condition.
“I had a team of people come together and really hammer out all of the details to get this event planned out so it can help the family and also create awareness of this rare condition,” Lee said.
Blake Grice was born with rhizomelic chondrodysplasia punctata and is one of three children to have the ailment but not have to use a feeding tube, previous Item coverage states. Worldwide, there are only 100 cases of this condition. RCDP is a form of dwarfism, which in Blake’s case could have prevented him from reaching his first birthday. Blake recently celebrated his second birthday.
“This family definitely deserves everything good in the world and so this is what this event is all about,” Lee said.
During Bikes for Grice, food and drinks will be sold and live music will be performed by Lee. Also, a motorcycle contest and beauty contest will be held during the event.
“I have always loved bikes, and I think this is a great opportunity for all the people of the community that think they have the best bike to come show it off, free of charge,” Lee said.
A prize will be issued to the winner.
The beauty contest is also free to enter and will be a stylish contest. The winner will receive a gift card to Hair by Julia in Picayune, Lee said.
Anyone who wants to enter their motorcycle in the contest is urged to when the doors open at 6 p.m. All bikes will be lined up inside the venue. The event is taking place at the Grand Banquet Hall in Picayune located at 217 South Curran Avenue. Live music will begin around 8 p.m. The entry fee for the event is $7 per person, which will benefit Blake Grice’s family.
