Narcotics investigators with the Picayune Police Department conducting routine patrols found several suspects in violation of drug related laws while conducting routine traffic stops.
The night of Feb. 6, just after 8, Picayune Police Department investigators were patrolling the area of Beech Street when a vehicle was observed leaving the roadway several times, according to a departmental release.
A stop was conducted on the vehicle, during which time the investigator spoke with the driver, identified as 44-year-old Joshua Joe Broom, of 201 Airport Road. Two other occupants were in the vehicle at the time of the stop, 34-year-old Brandon Allen Edwards of 931 Old Highway 11, Carriere and 23-year-old Brittany Danielle Martin of 458 Ozona Road.
Consent to search the vehicle was granted by Broom, the release states. In that search, the investigator found a glass pipe under a rear seat containing a crystal-like substance. The release states that brass knuckles were also found in the vehicle. After the three individuals were advised of their rights, Martin removed a glass pipe from her bra, relinquishing it to the investigator. However, none of the occupants claimed ownership of the brass knuckles, the release states.
A check of departmental records showed that Edwards and Broom had prior drug convictions with the Picayune Police Department, the release states.
Broom and Edwards were arrested for possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of paraphernalia, while Martin was arrested for possession of paraphernalia, the release states.
That same night, at about 9:45, the investigators conducted another traffic stop along North Beech Street for careless driving when the vehicle left the roadway several times. During the stop, one of the passengers, Jeremy Dan’Yelle Antoine, also known as “Chucky”, got out of the vehicle and fled on foot, in spite of the investigator’s commands to stay at the vehicle, the release states. A foot pursuit ensued and involved an attempt by the investigators to use a stun gun to detain Antoine, which had no effect on the suspect, the release states. After being hit with the stun gun, Antoine pulled a knife and ran at the law enforcement officers and attempted to cut them with the weapon, the release states. A brief struggle ensued where he was disarmed and handcuffed, before being taken into custody.
Officers that remained with the suspect vehicle and detained the other occupants of the vehicle, identified as 40-year-old Carol Ann Shields of 1416 Palestine Road and 30-year-old Heather Tuttle of 961 Ceasar Road, the release states. A search of the vehicle located several pieces of aluminum foil containing a brown powdery substance suspected to be heroin along with some drug paraphernalia, the release states. Shields was then arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia, no insurance, no driver’s license and careless driving, while Tuttle was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia, the release states. Antoine was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest by fleeing, resisting arrest by fighting and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, the release states.
