RECAP: Poplarville finds breathing room against Sumrall Tuesday night

Lady Hornets scrambles for a victory over Sumrall, 48-46

With less than 25 seconds remaining, Poplarville’s Jasmine Merrill knocked down three of four free throws to drive her team past the Lady Bobcats Tuesday night.

Merrill had 14 points and eight rebounds. Zanaisha Turner finished the game with 14 points and seven rebounds and a steal. Mallory Smith notched 11 points, six rebounds and five assists. Kenya Tillman stepped up defensively, gathering five rebounds and three blocks.

The Lady Bobcats Akele Parkman scored 12 points, eight in the fourth quarter. Teammate Mary Kate Holland finished with eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

 

Poplarville boys pull away to beat Sumrall 68-48

For the first time in a month, Poplarville beat an opponent by double-digits as the team defeat Sumrall 68-48 Tuesday night. Poplarville also had a terrific offensive night with four players scoring 12 or more points.

Richard Patton led the Hornets with 17 points and eight rebounds. Tamilijah Merrill finished the game with 13 points, five rebounds and three assists. Cannan Ray brought in 14 points, 12 of which were from behind the arc. Tyler Griffin pitched in for the Hornets with 12 points, six rebounds and three assists.

Bobcats’ Dannis Jackson led his team with 21 points.
