Social media has become more prevalent in the political world than I ever could have imagined.

One noticeable and frequent Twitter user that initially comes to mind is president-elect Donald Trump.

A quick scan of my twitter feed usually contains a tweetstorm from the president-elect nearly every day, where he openly expresses his opinions concerning worldwide topics that sometimes cause me anxiety.

The Washington Post pointed out his most recent Twitter rant, which was a response to news that he received a classified report, which stated Russian intelligence services possess compromising information about his personal life and finances.

This led Trump to tweet, “Intelligence agencies should never have allowed this fake news to ‘leak’ into the public. One last shot at me. Are we living in Nazi Germany?”

The Washington Post adds that 45 percent of registered Republicans think Trump should close his personal Twitter account when he takes office next week, and I agree.

Seeing our president-elect take offense to breaking news publically on Twitter is alarming. For once in my life, I would like my president’s initial thoughts of alleged news to be private.

Trump’s Twitter account does not reflect the public’s expectation of a president-elect. For me, I feel he is not respecting the seat in which he will soon sit, the same one that Abraham Lincoln and Dwight Eisenhower occupied.

Trump is definitely an outlier when discussing former U.S. presidents, but I believe that view would be less skewed if he didn’t take the social media route to express his animated opinions.
