Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church for Rev. Howard D. Stewart, Sr., age 79, of Picayune, Miss. who died January 5, 2017.
Rev. Dennis Holder will officiate at the service, assisted by Rev. Michael Kelly. Burial will be in the Picayune Cemetery under the direction of Baylous Funeral Home.
A native of Hazlehurst, Miss., he was a member of the St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, Associated Minister, a Deacon, adult Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher, President of the 5th Sunday Singing, a member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist District Association for many years, Pass President of City Wide Brotherhood Union for many years, a Missionary for many years, Missionary for the 5th Sunday School Union, member of BTU, Worshipful Master for Hiram Lodge No. 2, and C.C.H.Y. Board Member. Rev. Stewart retired from John C. Stennis Space Center in 2002.
Survivors include three sons, Howard D. Stewart Jr., Albert E. Stewart, and Michael C. Stewart; one daughter, Ida Stewart Holder; two brothers, Ike Stewart, and Coleman Davis; six sisters, Florence Stewart, Amy Durr, Sandra McCollum, Mable Gilmore, Louide Goss, and Linda Boney; 9 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren; plus a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, Picayune, Miss.
