Maud Massey Blount, 97, passed away December 20, 2016 at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Miss. Visitation was Monday, December 26 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl, Miss. Funeral services were at First Baptist Church of Pearl on Tuesday, December 27 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Interment was at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl.
A native of Decatur, Miss., Maud was born December 12, 1919. She was a graduate of Newton County Agricultural High School and East Central Junior College in Decatur. She was employed as a secretary to the county agent and home agent in Extension Forces at Decatur. Later she was employed in Decatur as a secretary in the Selective Service System during World War II.
During her lifetime, Maud served as a secretary at First Baptist churches in Poplarville, Miss.; Pineville, La.; and Pearl. She taught Sunday school for over 50 years and also worked for many years as a Vacation Bible School leader and Woman’s Missionary Union leader, teaching many children and ladies.
Maud was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Alexander Massey and Mamie Lou Williams Massey; stepmother, Carrie Huey Massey; and son, Alan W. Blount. All of her siblings also preceded her in death: Geneva Cirello, Sammye Wells, Jeanette VanEtten and Johnny Massey.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Clyde L. Blount; daughter Melanie (Mark) Smith of Decatur, Ala.; daughter, Dr. Linda J. Blount of Corinth, Miss.; and daughter-in-law, Margaret Blount of Mendenhall, Miss.
She is also survived by four grandchildren, James (Michelle) Blount; Sgt. Timothy Blount; Lauren Smith; and Andrea (John) Corbitt; six great-grandchildren; four nephews; and one niece, Shelia (Eddie) Mitchell of Daphne, Ala.
