Construction of a metal building next to the Carriere Volunteer Fire Department on U.S. 11 will provide a place for the department to store a command truck and a place for the community to hold events.
The bay of the new building will house the department’s command truck, which is used for performing station maintenance, transporting parts and responding to calls.
Carriere Volunteer Fire Department Chief Chris Banks said the truck is equipped with basic medical equipment and rescue tools on board so personnel responding in that vehicle can provide assistance while other trucks are on the way.
The bay will also house a gym for department member use.
For the community, an adjacent pavilion will provide the public with a place to hold birthday parties or garage sales. Banks asks community members interested in using the pavilion to contact department members to make arrangements.
Behind the station, a green space has been established in preparation for the installation of playground equipment. Banks said he doesn’t have a date for the installation of the playground equipment at this time, but said the pavilion is complete. Finishing touches on the bay will be conducted after Christmas.
The department is currently looking for volunteers. Banks said that anyone interested in becoming part of the department can attend one of their weekly meetings at 7 p.m. at the station on U.S. 11 across from Pearl River Central High School.
Banks said he would like to thank the community for their support and trust.
