In addition to the discussion of providing funding for renovations to the Poplarville-Pearl River County Airport and other necessary city upgrades, the Poplarville Board of Aldermen set a public hearing for the budget and other matters.
Later in the meeting, the Board approved a motion to add the airport’s request of $5,689 to their budget, Poplarville City Clerk Jane O’Neal said Wednesday.
The Board scheduled a public hearing for the FY 2017 budget on Sept. 6 at 5 p.m. The budget has to be approved by Sept. 15, O’Neal said.
The Board also approved a motion to raise the commercial waste disposal rates inside city limits from $15.85 to $16, O’Neal said. This commercial rate is the same as outside the city limits. The new rates will take effect during the September billing cycle, O’Neal said.
The Board also signed a contract between the city of Poplarville and the Poplarville School District regarding security services provided by the city’s police department, O’Neal said.
According to previous coverage, the district reimburses the city at an hourly rate of $25 per hour, which is the overtime rate for police officers.
Finally, the Board approved a motion to impose reasonable Municipal Court costs of up to $50 for the dismissal of any affidavit, complaint or charge, O’Neal said.
The next Board meeting will be held on Sept. 6 at 5 p.m. in the boardroom at City Hall.
