Not all candidates that will be listed on the March 8 primary ballot are still in the running. Pearl River County residents should be aware of which candidates are still up for the next presidential candidate.
Another election will also be on the ballot.
Candidates currently listed on the Republican ticket running for President of the United States are Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Chris Christie, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Lindsey Graham, Mike Huckabee, John R. Kasich, George Pataki, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Rick Santorum and Donald J. Trump.
Only five of the 13 candidates listed are still in the running. They include Carson, Cruz, Kasich, Rubio and Trump.
The Democratic is also inaccurate. It currently lists Hillary Clinton, Roque “Rocky” De la Fuente, Martin O’Malley and Bernie Sanders. However, O’Malley pulled out of the race earlier this month, but is also still listed on the ballot.
Additionally, another candidate who qualified for the Democratic Presidential ballot is not listed, Willie Wilson from Chicago. The Associated Press reports that the Supreme Court ruled that Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann would have to add Wilson to the Mississippi ballot. The AP story states Hosemann recently filed a motion to have that ruling overturned because to add Wilson to the ballot would be expensive and cause confusion. Additionally, Hosemann said that adding Wilson to the ballot would be unfair because absentee voting began on Jan. 23 for those living and working overseas, including those in the military. The AP story states that Hosemann wants to send corrected ballots to those overseas.
The only other race on the ballot for Mississippi voters is the U.S. House of Representatives 4th Congressional District. On the Republican ticket is incumbent Steven Palazzo. On the Democratic ticket for that race is Mark Gladney.
