Funeral Services for Troy Shondell (born Gary Wayne Schelton), age 76, of Picayune, Miss., who passed away Thursday, January 7, 2016, will be held Sunday, January 10, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home Chapel.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 10, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home.
Arrangements are under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home.
Rev. Josh Braddy will officiate the service.
A native of Fort Wayne, Ind, Troy was an American Vocalist who achieved fame and recognition for the hit single, “This Time” (We’re Really Breaking Up), which sold over 1 million records, earning gold disc status. In a single year, sales were over three million copies. Through the years, Troy stayed involved in the music industry and continued to tour and entertain his fans all over the world. One of his greatest passions was performing and using his talents to benefit Wounded Warrior Projects and the American Cancer Society. His last performance was at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi, MS in 2009. After a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease, Troy passed away peacefully in his sleep.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Schelton, Sr. and Virginia Curley Schelton; and his brother, Robert Schelton, Jr.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Trina McClendon Schelton; his children, Laura Schelton, Lucinda (Rob) Horel, Brad (Amy) Schelton, and Gary (Heidi) Schelton; his step children, Tammy (Dale) Purvis, Teresa (Jay) Shugart, Ty (Sandy) Gill, and Jamin (Mandy) Seal; 23 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; and his sister, Beverly Hudson.
