On two separate occasions, the Picayune Police Department arrested two individuals for possession of methamphetamine.
On Oct. 4 at 12:29 a.m., while patrolling Memorial Boulevard, an officer observed a suspicious male subject behind a local business, Picayune Police Department Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri said.
At that time, the officer got out of the vehicle to speak with the suspect and conducted a pat down, Magri said. In the search, a small bottle was recovered from the suspect’s right pants pocket which contained two orange pills, later identified as Xanax and two white pills, later identified as Soma, the assistant chief said.
Two plastic bags containing a crystal-like substance believed to be crystal methamphetamine were also recovered, Magri said.
The suspect, who was later identified as 52-year-old James Bonds, of 216 Dick Kennedy Road, was charged with one count of felony possession of a controlled substance and two misdemeanor counts of controlled substance, Magri said.
In a separate incident, on Oct. 18 at 6:25 a.m. Picayune police officers were dispatched to Jarrell and Davis Streets in reference to a report of a suspicious vehicle, Magri said.
Upon arrival, the officer observed a vehicle sitting at the stop sign, Magri said.
When the officer approached the vehicle, he observed a male subject, who appeared to be passed out behind the wheel, the assistant chief said. The vehicle was still in drive and the officer observed that the suspect had one foot on the brake and the other leg hanging out of the vehicle, Magri said.
The officer then turned off the vehicle and woke the suspect up, who was later identified as 30-year-old Kayle Abram of 601 Jarrell St., Magri said.
While speaking with Abram, the officer observed one burnt hand-rolled cigar containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana sitting on the console of the vehicle, Magri said.
The officer also noted a large Styrofoam cup, which contained a yellow liquid believed to be an alcoholic beverage, Magri said.
The officer then instructed Abram to exit the vehicle and observed him to be unsteady on his feet, Magri said. The officer also observed one crystal rock-like substance, believed to be crystal methamphetamine on the seat, Magri said.
While speaking with Abram, the officer also smelled the strong odor of an intoxicating beverage coming from Abram, Magri said. The suspect’s speech was slurred and his eyes were bloodshot, the assistant chief said.
The officer conducted a pat down of Abram and recovered a glass pipe, commonly used to inhale a controlled substance from Abram’s left hand, Magri said.
The officer also located another crystal rock-like substance in Abram’s front jacket pocket, which was believed to be crystal methamphetamine, Magri said.
Abram was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia and possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle, Magri said.
Upon arrival at the jail, Abram was given a standardized field sobriety test, the assistant chief said. As a result, Abram was also charged with DUI first offense and issued a citation for obstructing traffic, no proof of insurance and driving while license suspended, Magri said.
