William Douglas “Doug” McQueen

William Douglas “Doug” McQueen, 70, died Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at his home in Oxford, MS. A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, September 20, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Jack Reed Park in Picayune, MS. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Picayune, MS to the late Jack and Mary Harvis Necaise McQueen, Doug graduated from Pearl River Junior College and The University of Southern Mississippi. He first worked at the NASA test site as an editor. He then taught English at Ocean Springs High, Bay St. Louis High and Biloxi High schools. He was a principal at Waveland Elementary in Waveland, Beauvoir Elementary and assistant principal at Nichols Junior High, both in Biloxi MS. He was also the Assistant Superintendent of Harrison County School System. After 18 years in Mississippi Schools he worked for Mississippi Power in Gulfport MS, Blake & Mouton in Austin TX, CSW in Dallas TX and AEP Columbus OH as the Leadership & Development Trainer. He retired from The University of Mississippi Department of Education as Leadership Training consultant. Doug continued his career with NISL as a leadership facilitator and coach. He also did training for the Triumph Fabrication Company in Hot Springs AR and Leadership Partners in Birmingham AL.
Doug followed in his father’s footsteps as an avid outdoorsman, enjoying both hunting and fishing. He loved reading books and most of all enjoying his children and their families.
Mr. McQueen is survived by his wife, Sandy Shaw McQueen of Oxford, MS; one son, William Sean McQueen, his wife, Kelly and grandchildren, Liam and Rhett of New Orleans, LA,; one daughter, Gayle McQueen-Turner and her husband, Brent and grandchildren, Macie, Colton and Jack of Midlothian, TX; one sister, Jackanell McQueen-Smith of Picayune, MS.
