After several months of investigation, the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department, in conjunction with the Mississippi Department of Corrections, recovered narcotics with a street value of about $28,000 in Poplarville.
For months, the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department received information and complaints regarding the occupants at 2322 Hwy. 53, Poplarville, Sheriff David Allison said.
The residents were believed to be involved with illegal narcotics activity, the sheriff said.
Through their investigation detectives learned 61-year-old Thomas Parker was on probation with MDOC, Allison said. Detectives informed MDOC of the complaints. MDOC officers have the right to inspect the homes of those on probation, the sheriff said.
On Sept. 10, Pearl River County narcotics detectives, assisted by MDOC, conducted a residential inspection, Allison said.
Upon arrival, detectives made contact with Parker, who was advised by MDOC, that officers were there to conduct an inspection, the sheriff said.
During the inspection, officers also discovered 24-year-old Sherry Rogers in the bathroom, who later stated during a post-Miranda interview, that she had ‘‘entered the restroom upon officers’’ arrival and was instructed by Parker to flush methamphetamines down the toilet,’ Allison said. It is unknown if any narcotics were destroyed, the sheriff said.
During further inspection of the residence, detectives located 10 oz. of what was believed to be methamphetamine packed for resale with a street value of $28,000, Allison said.
Detectives also recovered numerous bags of a substance believed to be marijuana packaged for resale with a street vale of $2,000, the sheriff said.
Packaged oxycodone and codeine pills were also recovered from inside the residence, Allison said.
Officers also located three firearms in close proximity to the narcotics inside the residence, the sheriff said.
During an investigation of the property, officers recovered a 1999 Chevrolet truck, which was listed on the National Crime Information Center as stolen from Harrison County, Allison said. Detectives also recovered a 2003 Harley Davidson, also listed as stolen from Hancock County, the sheriff said.
Detectives confiscated the narcotics, $695 in cash, three firearms and four other vehicles on the property that were not listed as stolen, Allison said.
Parker was charged with four counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, three counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and two counts of possession of stolen property, the sheriff said.
Roger was charged with four counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, Allison said.
