On Saturday, volunteer firefighters from several agencies responded to a structure fire at 45 Checker Mitchell Road off of Highway 607.
Initial investigation determined the cause of the fire to be due to a heater inside a camping trailer, adjacent to the house, said Pearl River County Fire Marshall Albert Lee.
“A neighbor called and said she heard a loud boom, and when she looked out the window the house was on fire,” said Lee.
Lee said, the noise heard by the neighbor was the sound of a propane tank exploding.
The call came in at 10:05 p.m. and first responders were on the scene at 10:19, said Lee. The Nicholson Volunteer Fire Department was first on the scene, followed by Southeast and Pinegrove.
Firefighters battled the blaze until around 1:15 a.m.
The house was a doublewide mobile home with an addition and a porch, said Lee.
Lee said there was no one home when the fire occurred.
