Last weekend, there was a half marathon in Bay St. Louis.
I did not participate, but I know some runners that did and upon hearing their amazing story, I wish I had.
During the race, Mr. Glenn, an older gentleman fell on the pavement while picking up a piece of trash.
According to social media reports, he was bleeding from the face, arms and legs. The EMTs told him to stop, but he told them he was going to finish.
Other runners accompanied Glenn during his finish as he was determined to finish the race before the 11 a.m. cutoff.
Glenn finished the race and after a brief break, he later told the other runners that he was about 15 months post coronary artery bypass surgery, the social media post states.
Of course, my initial reaction was to shed a couple of happy tears for this obviously determined gentleman.
After, I couldn’t help but smile and think what a wonderful role model this man must be to his family and the people who spent a few moments with him Saturday morning.
I recently began my running regime again after hibernating during the winter months. I have also continued Zumba in the comfort of my home.
It’s been a bit difficult getting back into the rhythm of running, so I’m alternating between walking and running until I get back in the swing of things.
I’m more determined than ever, because I know that anything is possible once you put your mind to it.
The determination and desire to finish the race he started is amazing.
He appears to be truly dedicated to the decisions he makes and following through, no matter what.
The next time I feel like giving up or my muscles feel too sore, I will think of Mr. Glenn and push on.
