“A good hairstylist is somebody that can satisfy a customer and give them a good balanced haircut,” – Buddy Spiers, owner of Buddy’s Style Shop.

Buddy Spiers has been styling and trimming in Picayune for the past 40 years.
“I’ve seen a lot of changes in Picayune over the years,” Spiers said. “This town has grown a lot. We have a good hospital, our police department can’t be beat and we have good leaders. This is a good community.”
The Pearl River County native and hairstylist is the owner of Buddy’s Style Shop.
“One day I decided that cutting hair was what I wanted to do,” Spiers said. “I put my wife through nursing school and then I attended Hinds Community College barber school.”
Spiers is also a licensed instructor and even operated a barber school at one time.
In 1975, he opened his original hair salon on Hwy. 11 N., where Sho-Nuff BBQ is located today, Spiers said.
In 1983, he moved his salon to its current location, which is next door to the original locale.
Spiers said he still services some of his original customers.
“I’m cutting the hair of fourth generation customers,” Spiers said. “I’m cutting the hair of some of patron’s great-grandchildren.”
Spiers said he enjoys meeting people and can cut a man’s hair in about two minutes.
Louis Kain has been a customer of Buddy’s off and on for the past 10 years.
“He’s the only barber I go to,” Kain said. “Number one, he’s quick and he cuts it the way you want.”
Spiers employs four stylists who perform a variety of services at the salon.
David Palmer has worked with Spiers since he opened and said Spiers is fun to work with.
“I enjoy joking with the customers,” Palmer said. “Buddy is a great boss and he’s been very good to me throughout the years.”
Girtha Jenkins has worked with Buddy for the past 23 years and said the salon is a relaxed environment and their customers enjoy their experience.
Spiers offers a variety of services for both men and women.
A man’s haircut costs $12 to $15 while women can get a cut $15 to $25, Spiers said. The cuts include shampoo and styling.
Spiers offers other services including perms which cost $55 to $60, frosting begins at $35 and up; and coloring begins at $35 and up.
Spiers’ salon is located at 2020 Hwy. 11 N.
Buddy’s Style Shop is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Spiers is usually in the shop during business hours Thursday and Friday and 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
