On Monday night, the Pearl River Community College Campus Police officially charged the suspect involved in the weekend sexual assault incident, which reportedly took place early Sunday morning on the Poplarville campus.

Laderrick J. Scott, 20, of 411 Martin Luther King Drive in Forest, Miss. was charged with forcible rape Monday evening and is being held in the Pearl River County Jail where he will await his initial court appearance.

According to a statement released by PRCC, Scott was arrested early Sunday afternoon following an investigation.

The incident allegedly took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday, the release states.

Scott is accused of threatening the victim before later entering her residence hall room and assaulting her, the release states.

“To have an incident of this nature occur on one of our campuses brings a heightened awareness that in spite of our efforts to provide for the safety of all of our students and employees, we must continuously work to evaluate and improve our effort in this regard,” said PRCC President Dr. William Lewis in the release.

“You can be assured that no stone will be left unturned as we research this incident and evaluate improvements for the future,” said Lewis in the release.
