The Picayune Police Department recently made two arrests in a drug case on Saturday, Feb. 14.

That afternoon, officers were dispatched to the area of a local motel off of Memorial Boulevard in reference to a domestic dispute call, Picayune Police Department Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri said.

Upon their arrival, they found Amanda Davis, 36, and Toby Banner, 38, both of 1522 N. Beech St. arguing in the middle of the roadway near the motel, Magri said.

When the officers approached Davis, she appeared to have constricted pupils and slurred speech, while Banner also had constricted pupils and was unable to control his body movements, Magri said.

Through the investigation, officers learned that the two were allegedly arguing over Davis’s choice of clothing, Magri said.

At this time, officers followed Davis and Banner back to the motel room where they were staying, at which time, officers allegedly smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the room, Magri said.

When the officers conducted a search of the room, they found

one clear plastic bag containing a white crystallized substance believed to be crystal meth inside the nightstand, and another clear plastic bag containing a while crystallized substance believed to be crystal meth in the bathroom and a clear glass pipe containing residue, which is commonly used to smoke or inhale narcotics, Magri said.

Magri also said that there was an 11-year-old child inside the motel at the time.

When officers repeatedly advised both subjects to place their hands behind their back, Davis and Banner refused to comply, Magri said.

At this point, both subjects were arrested and transported to the Criminal Justice Center, where they were booked and incarcerated for felony possession of a controlled substance, contributing to the neglect of a minor, possession of paraphernalia, failure to comply and public drunk, Magri said.

The child was placed into the custody of a family member, Magri said.
