Last week, Colby Wayne Parker, 20, of 1107 Roosevelt Street was charged with possession of child pornography.

Several months ago, the Louisiana District Attorney’s Office alerted the Picayune Police Department’s criminal investigation division that child pornography was being downloaded in Picayune, Picayune Police Department Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri said.

Through the Picayune Police Department’s subsequent investigation, it was learned the child pornography had been downloaded at the address of 1107 Roosevelt Street. Later in the investigation, the suspect was identified as Parker, who had resided at the residence during the time of the offense, Magri said.

Through the investigation, the Picayune Police Department determined Parker was currently residing in a dorm at the Pearl River Community College in Poplarville.

On Wednesday, Jan. 21, Picayune Police Department detectives met with PRCC campus police and informed them that they were investigating a child pornography case and believed Parker resided in one of the dorms, Magri said.

Later that day, Parker was located on campus and taken to the administrative building where detectives from the Picayune Police Department interviewed him, Magri said.

Through the interview, it was learned that the laptop allegedly used to download the child pornography was in Parker’s dorm room. It was quickly recovered by the Picayune Police Department, Magri said.

Parker was then taken into custody and transported to the Criminal Justice Center, where he was booked and incarcerated for possession of child pornography, Magri said.

Magri said the laptop was tagged as evidence and will be sent to the Louisiana District Attorney’s Office in order to recover the child pornography.

Parker is out on a $25,000 bond, Magri said.
