Railroad crossing closings

Beginning Monday, Feb. 2, several Norfolk Southern Railroad crossings will be closed in Pearl River County and within Poplarville’s city limits.
According to Pearl River County Road Department Administrative Assistant Tammy Johnson, Norfolk will be repairing nine crossings in the county and four in Poplarville.
“Norfolk representatives did not relay to me how long this project would take,” Johnson said. “They informed me that they will be closing crossings two at a time.”
The tentative closing time for the crossings will be between 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m., Johnson said. Norfolk crews will make every effort to re-open the crossings for evening traffic.
Johnson said she has alerted the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department and first-responders about the crossings.
The Pearl River County Road Department would like to advise residents to make every effort to plan an alternate route.
The crossings affected in the county will be Ben Gill Road, McNeill and Steephollow Road, Savannah and Millard Road, Dupont and Hartschapel Road, E.T. Poole Road, Cowart and Holliday Road, Garrett and McGill Road, Hillsdale Road and Red Top Road.
The crossings in Poplarville include Michigan Street, Martin Luther King Street, East North Street and East Nelson Street.
According to Johnson, Norfolk representatives informed the department that detours will be set up on each road.
