Thomas R. (Tommy) Walker, age 85 of Picayune, MS went home to heaven on Monday, January 12, 2015. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 24, 2015, at 2:00 pm at Mars Hill Baptist Church, 6145 N Greensburg Rd, Summit, MS 39666.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 24, 2015 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Mars Hill Baptist Church
Local arrangements are under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Mars Hill Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Hartman Funeral Home.
Rev. Bruce Fields and Rev. Larry Fields, nephews of Mr. Walker will officiate the celebration of his life..
A native of Amite County, MS, Tommy attended Louisiana College. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War period. He was a Mason. A former member of the MS House of Representatives.
Tommy retired as an Area Manager of Woodmen of the World Life Insurance, he was affiliated with Woodmen of the World for 30 plus years. He was a financial advisor and a member of First Baptist Church of Picayune.
Tommy and his late wife of 64 years, Dotsye, were active in the community of Meridian, MS, where they lived for over 30 years, from entertaining at local nursing homes, to taking 20 to 30 kids to Woodmen summer camp, or providing for families, who had lost homes to fire or tornadoes. The two of them had a love for life and the greatest love for each other. They had big adventures and big fun throughout their life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Kenna Walker and Bessie Mae Godbold Walker; his wife of 64 years, Dotsye Elaine Walker; his son, Ken Walker; his sisters and brothers, Rita Mounger, Nick Walker, Winford Walker, Mary Bea Parks, and Merle Fields.
Survivors include his son, Winston Walker and wife Rhonda; his daughter in law, Vanessa Walker; and his 3 granddaughters, Laine, Brooke, and Lauren Walker.
