For those of you wanting a new family pet or to give a great gift this Christmas, there is still time to adopt an animal before the holidays end. The Pearl River County SPCA is offering a special on adopted cats through Jan. 1.

“We’d like to get all of these animals out of the shelter and home for the holidays,” said Maria Diamond, President of the PRCSPCA.

Kittens that are usually $100 can be adopted for $75, and all adult cats are marked down to $50 or less.

“Some cats are only $20,” said Diamond, “Some of the older ones have been in here since around last New Year’s.”

The shelter is open until noon on Christmas Eve and resumes their regular hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the day after Christmas. Diamond says that many people who adopt cats put a hold on them so they can be picked up on Christmas Eve.

The ASPCA website lists that 3.4 million cats enter animal shelters throughout America every year. Of that number, the website states that a larger percentage of cats are euthanized rather than adopted.

The Pearl River County SPCA has information and photos posted on their website of all cats available for adoption. To find a cat to bring home for the holidays, visit prcspca.org.
