Ping-Pong balls in Poplarville

There’s a special event going on this Saturday in Poplarville and it involves ping-pong balls, local businesses, surprise treats, a fire truck and Santa Claus.
The Poplarville Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its fourth annual Ping-Pong Drop in the downtown area at 2 p.m.
During the event, a fire truck will drive down Main Street and throw ping-pong balls at attendees lining the street, chamber board member Maggie Smith said. Inside the ping-pong balls, local business owners have placed candy, money or coupons.
“It’s a great shopping day for our merchants,” Smith said. “For years, the chamber has struggled and is still run by volunteers. During the last five years, we have grown and started putting more emphasis on community related events.”
In the last three years, the chamber’s board expanded to include a representative from every community club, Smith said, and that way, everyone knows what is going on in Poplarville.
“This a day geared towards getting families into Poplarville and shopping locally,” Smith said.
The Poplarville Area Chamber of Commerce is located at 1001 N. Main St. and is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information call 601-795-0578 or visit the website at www.poplarville.org.
