Three teams could be playoff bound

High school football is king in Pearl River County.
And this year all three local teams could be well on their way to playoff games and possibly bring home the trophy.
Poplarville and Picayune have already secured their playoff spots, while Pearl River Central is on the verge of theirs.
It’s a rare occurrence for a county to have all three of their teams do so well during a season.
Pearl River County is fortunate to have such great coaches and players.
What is especially exciting is that Picayune and Pearl River Central high schools could potentially face each other in a playoff game.
Both teams have strong coaching staff and a talented group of young men.
On Sept. 12 Picayune’s Maroon Tide hosted the Pearl River Central Blue Devils in what turned out to be a nail biter, ending with a score of 19-14 in the Tide’s favor.
But let’s not forget about our Hornets up in Poplarville.
They have had a very successful year too, earning the title in their district and the first seed for Friday’s playoff game.
If the scheduling does work out to where these two rivaling teams meet again, especially in a playoff setting, it can be assured the stadium will be full of proud parents, loyal alumni and fans of high school football.
While the National Football League provides us with quality entertainment on Thursday, Sunday and Monday, you can’t beat a high school football game.
Sure, there are many great plays to be seen while watching an NFL game, but it seems that high school players put more heart and soul into their Friday night performances.
So no matter which is your favorite, you still get to root for the home team this Friday.
