Mississippi Power hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of their new location at 600 West Canal Street in Picayune.
The ceremony included an open house for members of the community to visit, enjoy refreshments and tour the new building before watching the ribbon cutting outside.
After 35 years in their previous location on Elizabeth Street, Mississippi Power officially opened the new office on Oct. 27. Mississippi Power District Manager Benny Prestridge stressed that an investment into downtown Picayune was the driving force behind the selection of the new location.
“Downtown revitalization is very important to us,” said Prestridge, who added that he hopes Mississippi Power’s $1.35 million investment into Picayune’s historical downtown business district will help promote the area.
The new building contains nearly 800 more square feet of space than their old location and sits on 1.65 acres of land. The new location will allow for more office space, extra storage areas and a conference room that will also be used to plan for storms.
In addition to the other changes, Mississippi Power has added a drive-thru system for improved customer service, as well as additional parking around the building.
“Everything we do is based on the customers,” said Prestridge, “They’re the reason we get up and come to work in the morning.”
