There are times when people look around their home and think about changing their furniture, drapery or adding a new and funky lamp to an existing eclectic décor.
Redecorating is often times expensive and taxing venture.
However, there’s a store in Picayune that provides the cure for those Feng Shui blues, Shabby Chic, Etc.
Owner Karen Adam Necaise grew up in Bay St. Louis and is the oldest of nine children.
“It was a beautiful start to my life,” Necaise said. “We really don’t begin to appreciate life and family until we venture out on our own. We grow up not having anything but everything, we were happy and complete.”
Necaise is married to Dale and they have three daughters, three son-in-laws and six grandchildren.
Shabby Chic is a family and Christian based business, Necaise said.
From 1978 to 1995, Necaise worked in purchasing and contracts for the Naval Oceanographic Office at Stennis Space Center. After that, she worked as a lease operator for land, oil and gas leases.
“We had our first grandchild in 1999 and I became a stay-at-home nana and opened a little daycare,” Necaise said. “I also makes wedding and specialty cakes.”
In December of 2013, Necaise walked into the discount home store to pay on a layaway.
“I had been praying for something to come along for me and my family,” Necaise said. “I overheard Rosemary, the former owner, on the phone discussing selling the business. She made me an offer and I started crying.”
Since taking ownership of the business, Necaise has encountered amazing people that at times have needed uplifting.
“We talk about being blessed and sometimes they have uplifted me when I’ve needed it,” Necaise said. “I’m a people person and I give thanks to Jesus for answering my prayers and to my family and the customers that have blessed me by coming to my store.”
Shabby Chic features a variety of home décor items at discounted prices.
Comforters, rugs and drapes are marked 75 percent off the original retail price, Necaise said. The majority of the items in the store are marked down 25 to 75 percent off.
The business offers a variety of unique home furnishings including lamps, living and dining room sets, wicker outdoor furniture, fleur de lis merchandise and much more.
Necaise also sells the Purvis Jewelry candle which contains a piece of jewelry worth anywhere from $10 to $11,000.
Necaise offers layaway and zero percent interest financing.
“This is not just a business, it’s a relationship,” Necasie said. “I want people to come by and want them to feel comfortable.”
Shabby Chic, Etc. is located at 505 S. Main St.
The store hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
