Community complaints of reckless driving on city streets led to the installation of a three way stop in Picayune.
The new addition entailed installation of two new stop signs, complete with flashing lights to draw attention to the change, said Public Works Director Eric Morris.
Motorists traveling through the intersection of Glenwood Street and Seventh Avenue should be mindful of the change, Morris said.
The intersection previously only had one stop sign facing Seventh Avenue.
The flashing lights will remain at the intersection for the next six weeks until motorists become accustomed to the change.
Morris said the move began as community complaints, which were investigated by the city’s engineering department, and police department.
The result of that investigation was the installation of the new stop signs and stop bars on the road to curb instances of reckless driving that was occurring in the area.
All of the work was completed Monday, Morris said.
