A group of sponsors from the Pine Belt area has pitched in to put a pink 2015 Hyundai Sonata on the road in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. On Wednesday, the pink car visited Highland Hospital in Picayune.
Melanie Walters, Local Sales Manager for Comcast Spotlight, says this is the first year that Comcast Spotlight in Hattiesburg is participating in the promotion. Mack Grubbs Hyundai, Forrest General Hospital and Carter’s Jewelry are sponsors for the pink car, and they coordinated to schedule a calendar of events and clinics for the car to visit throughout the month.
The car is covered in signatures in remembrance of a loved one who passed from breast cancer, or to honor a loved one who is currently fighting the disease. Some have signed just to show their support in the fight against breast cancer.

When Walters takes the car to an event, she says many of the people who sign will open up about their personal cancer experiences.
“You hear stories from people and that’s when you know how important of an issue this is,” Walters said, “That’s how you know it’s worth it to do this.”
The car will be on the road through the first week of Nov., making one of its last stops at the University of Southern Mississippi’s homecoming football game in Hattiesburg on Nov. 8. For more information on when and where to see the car, visit the “Drive to Inspire” link on Forrest General Hospital’s website.
