Funeral services for Edward Michael Jeffries, Sr. , 82, of Picayune will be held on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 1 pm. At Weems Chapel United Methodist Church. Elder Ada Clay will officiate at the service.
Edward M. Jeffries was born on April 14, 1932 to the late Sam and Pomelia Jeffries in Pass Christian, MS. He was reared by his Aunt and Uncle, Mikk and Mary Thomas.
He graduated of Randolph High School Class of 1952 in Pass Christian, MS. Mr. Edward Jeffries continued his education at Southern University of Baton Rouge where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Education on June 12, 1958. He returned to further his education at Southern University and received his Masters of Education in Secondary Education on August 8, 1964.
He was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Edward Jeffries was a member of the United States Army where he received his highest rank as an E-7, Master Seargent, where he served in Desert Storm. He later transferred from the Army to the U. S. National Guard, where he served until April 14, 1992. He completed a petroleum supply specialist school at the United Stated Army Quarter Master School at Fort Lee, VA.
Mr. Jeffries also completed 29 years of dedicated service to the Picayune Public School System, serving as a school teacher, and then as a counselor. He retired in 1987. He was also the President of the Scholarship Fund Bingo, Inc. which provided many scholarships to needy students in the Pearl River County area across the years.
Edward Jeffries is preceded in death by his parents, Sam & Pomelia Jeffries; his aunt and uncle, Mikk & Mary Thomas; one sister, Levelia “Sweetie” Lizana; three brothers, Will Clyde Thomas, Lexie Thomas, and Samuel Jeffries.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Hazel Jeffries; four daughters, Doreen Cook, of Tacoma, WA, Tamara Nixon, of Slidell, LA, Toni (James) Jones, of Phonix, AZ, and Ursula Taylor, of Gulfport, MS; three sons, Fletcher Cousin, of Houston, TX, Edward Jeffries, Jr., of Virginia Beach, VA, and Victor Breland, of ; three sisters, Edrina Landry, of Pass Christian, MS, Willie Mae Hellams, of Memphis, TN, and Adele Lyons, of New York, NY; one brother, Freddie (Audrey) Jeffries, of Toledo, OH; three step-children, Donald W. Hall, Deborah Jackson, both of Picayune, MS, and Mose Dunmore III, of Rhode Island, MA; two god-children, Nickendrick Flot and Rita Faye Lizana; a very special friend/caregiver, Phillip Jackson; and a host of other
relatives and friends.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. Interment will be in Picayune Cemetery with Military Honors. Entrusted to Brown’s Funeral Home.
