Star Wars update

As a kid growing up in the late 70s and early 80s I always loved the Star Wars franchise.

In all honesty back then there were not many space movies that a small child was able to see.

There were a few geared towards the older crowd, but I didn’t get to see those until later in life.

However the Star Wars series, even today, holds a special place in my movie collection.

I even wish I had some of the old toys from back then.

Not just because a number of them are worth money, but they would make good displays if they were still in good shape.

I may be ostracized by the fan base for saying this, but I even found the recent releases of the series covering episodes 1 through 3 enjoyable.

Sure Jar Jar Binks was an annoying replacement for C3PO’s comedic relief, and in episodes 2 and 3 Anikin was a tad whiny.

I take that back, he was too whiny.

But as a whole, those movies were not as bad as the negative reviews portrayed.

One thing I don’t agree with was changing the old movies, or rather episodes 4 through 6, to add modern special effects and new songs as a way to tie the new releases in with the old.

Due to those changes, a part of my childhood can never be relived; I will never be able to see those movies the way I remember seeing them as a child.

Now there is talk of a new set of movies in that franchise that will cover the events that transpired after episode 6.

I’m excited and concerned to see what Disney intends to do with the franchise.

I just hope they don’t decide to change the previous movies again.
