A Pearl River County man was arrested for felony assault and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute after assaulting a woman.

Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said the case began on Aug. 16 with a community complaint that a man was selling marijuana from his home.

Tucker said before Detective Juan Martinez got a chance to follow up on the complaint, he was called to Highland Community Hospital the next day for a woman who alleged 36-year-old Jeremiah Tyson III choked and intimidated her.

After speaking with the victim at the hospital, and noting several signs of abuse, Martinez went to Tyson’s home, located at 114 Villa Lane, Tucker said.

Upon arrival officers could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the home, Tucker said.

Consent to search the home was granted, which resulted in Martinez finding a shoe box in Tyson’s room containing about two pounds of marijuana, digital scales and a handgun.

Tyson was charged with felony aggravated domestic assault, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Tucker said.
