There are always a variety of topics to write about for a newspaper.

There are crime stories.

Our job to report the crime and write about the law enforcement officers that put their lives on the line every day to keep our cities and county safe.

There are political stories. Most every taxpayer is curious about how and where their tax dollars are being spent.

Then there are the stories that most every reader enjoys reading. The heartwarming stories about everyday residents accomplishing extraordinary things.

This week the staff at the Item met 21-year-old Brandon Balli.

Balli is the oldest of nine children so his parents did not have the means to provide a vehicle for his use at college.

That all changed when Balli won the free car giveaway at Mossy of Picayune last Saturday.

According to Balli’s parents and grandparents, he is a very bright, hardworking young man and extremely deserving of such a generous gift.

Not only does the free car disavow skeptics’ beliefs in giveaways, it provides Balli with transportation he will need to drive back and forth to college at the University of Southern Mississippi.

This is the gift that will keep on giving.

Here at the Picayune Item, we are proud to showcase for our readers this community’s accomplishments and triumphs.

We are also obligated to report the news, whether it is good or bad.

However, there will always be room in our newspaper for the good deeds of the citizens of Pearl River County.
