Three traffic stops conducted by Picayune Police officers led to the discovery of three suspects in possession of controlled substances.

On June 19, officers conducted a stop on a vehicle at the intersection of U.S. 11 and Memorial Boulevard that was obstructing both lanes of traffic, said Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri.

They found 39-year-old Trudy Adams of 147 Lilac Dr., Nicholson behind the wheel and when they asked for her driver’s license and proof of insurance she was unable to provide either, Magri said. A check with the National Crime Information Center determined her license was suspended for a failure to appear warrant, leading her to be taken into custody for the charges of driving while license suspended, no insurance and obstructing traffic.

As officers conducted the arrest they could see a baggy in plain view in the center console of the vehicle, which was found to contain a white powder substance believed to be methamphetamine, Magri said. A subsequent search of her vehicle found two more baggies containing a white residue under the driver’s seat, also suspected to be from methamphetamine, Magri said.

In her wallet, officers found another baggy with a white crystalized substance and two pieces of aluminum foil with a burnt residue, Magri said. She was additionally charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia, Magri said.

In a separate case on the same day officers on patrol saw 43-year-old Roderick Durr of 307 N. Abrams Ave., at a local car wash, who was known to have a warrant out for his arrest for simple assault, Magri said.

As officers entered the business to speak with him, Durr put his hands in his pocket, walked to a hallway and threw something to the ground before turning around, Magri said.

Officers took Durr into custody for the warrant, and then recovered the item he discarded down the hall, which turned out to be two baggies containing a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana, Magri said. During a pat down of Durr’s person officers found four burnt hand-rolled cigarettes suspected to contain marijuana in his pants pocket. Durr was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance.

On June 18, as officers were conducting an undercover narcotics operation, a vehicle was seen to be obstructing traffic on Greenview Drive. Magri said as officers passed the parked vehicle they witnessed a man walk up to the car and then see the driver and pedestrian engage in what appeared to a hand-to-hand drug transaction, Magri said.

The officers continued to drive past and watch the men interact until the vehicle drove from the area. Magri said the officers conducted a stop on the vehicle, coming into contact with 18-year-old Dustin Gray of 46 Emmett Meitzler Dr.

As officers checked Gray’s driver’s license, which turned out to be suspended, they could detect the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, Magri said.

Gray was asked to exit the vehicle and charged with driving while license suspended. Magri said a search of the vehicle found a bag with a green leafy substance, suspected to be marijuana, leading him to be charged with possession of a controlled substance.
