Picayune Police officers arrested two suspects in two separate cases for drug related offenses.

A search warrant conducted on June 24, led to the arrest of one suspect for drug related charges, while another remains at large.

Picayune Police Department Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri said the narcotics investigators obtained a search warrant for the home of 51-year-old Kevin Keene and 39-year-old Stephen Lowe, located at 900 Carter St., through an investigation into alleged drug activity. Officers arrived to find only Keene at the home.

During the search, officers found a large amount of paraphernalia on a bed in Lowe’s room of the home along with several burnt hand rolled cigarettes containing a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana, loose marijuana and a prescription bottle containing an unknown clear liquid, Magri said. The investigators also found several used and unused syringes on the bed, under the bed, in dresser drawers and in soft drink cans on the adjacent nightstand, Magri said. A set of digital scales with a white residue was also found in the room, Magri said.

In a plastic toy Easter egg investigators found two plastic bags containing a crystal like substance suspected to be methamphetamine, Magri said.

Investigators also found a 9mm Taurus gun in the room, which was determined by the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department to have been stolen from an individual in this county, Magri said.

In Keene’s bedroom, the investigators found a glass pipe with a burnt residue, torn steel wool and a burnt spoon, all paraphernalia commonly used in the consumption of narcotics, Magri said.

Keene was charged with possession of marijuana, Magri said. The assistant chief said officers are still looking for Lowe and have issued a warrant for his arrest on the charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute within 1,500 feet of a school or church, three counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a stolen firearm.

In a separate incident that occurred on June 21, officers on patrol saw a vehicle on Union School Road without a license plate traveling at a high rate of speed, Magri said. As the officer followed the vehicle he observed the driver cross the centerline, at which time a stop was conducted near Beech and Palestine Streets. Magri said as the officer spoke with the driver, identified as 34-year-old Charles St. Amand of 8 King Rd., Carriere, he could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

During the stop the officer located a large bag of marijuana from between the driver seat and center console, Magri said. A pat down of St. Amand located a bag with a crystal like substance believed to be methamphetamine, Magri said.

A further search of the vehicle located a broken glass pipe with burnt residue in the driver’s side door panel and a 12 gauge shotgun, leading St. Amand to be charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, felony possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, careless driving, no insurance and no tag.

St. Amand’s 2000 Infinity G20 was seized during the stop, Magri said.
