ELLISVILLE — Poplarville’s Tristan Wheat has received a big honor.

The senior-to-be was selected to play in the annual Mississippi Association of Coaches Softball All-Star Games that will take place today at Community Bank Park on the campus of Jones County Junior College.

It will be the third time for JCJC to serve as host for the event. Four games will be played on Saturday between All-Stars representing the North and the South from the state.

The first 1A/2A/3A All-Star Game begins at 10 a.m., followed by the first 4A/5A/6A All-Star Game.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., All-Stars from all four teams will be introduced.

The second 1A/2A/3A All-Star Game will then take place, followed by the second 4A/5A/6A All-Star Game.

Wheat and the rest of the players reported to JCC on Thursday and went through a practice session on Friday in preparation for the game.

As a junior, Wheat was one of the top hitters for Poplarville High this past season, as the Lady Hornets captured the Region 8-4A championship.

Jeremy Duke of Smithville is the North head coach in the smaller schools game, and is assisted by Michael Wildmon of Smithville.

Wayne Wilson of Sebastopol is the head coach of the South team in the smaller schools game, and is assisted by Cassie Wilson of Sebastopol.

Dean Burrell of Lewisburg is the head coach of the North team in the larger schools game, and is assisted by Shane Staten of Southaven.

Justin Chaney of Newton County is the head coach of the South team in the larger school game, and is assisted by Jay Smith of NCHS.

Other players from South Mississippi joining Wheat on the South team in the larger schools game are Kelcey Bremenkamp of Gulfport, Jackie Shows of West Harrison as well as Natalie Hogue and Kaylen Kosbab of Harrison Central.
