A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Richard Catholic Church, 1242 Lynwood Dr., Jackson, Miss., at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 16, 2014, for James Donald Westendorf, 82, who passed away as a result of natural causes on June 9, 2014, in Lafayette, La.

Father Mike O’Brien of St. Richard Catholic Church in Jackson will officiate.

Inurnment will follow on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at 11 a.m., in Port Hudson National Cemetery, 20978 Port Hickey Rd., Zachary, La.

Mr. Westendorf was born in Manchester, NH on September 10, 1931. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on July 21, 1949, and was posted to HMX-1 Marine Corps Air Station, Quantico, Va. He proudly served his country during the Korean War and remained in the military until 1963.

Jim was employed in the aerospace industry for several years. He later retired in the oil and gas industry in Jackson, living there for 30 years. In November 2013, he moved to Lafayette to live with his daughter, Angela and her family.

Mr. Westendorf was preceded in death by: his infant daughter, Ann Florence Westendorf; his son, Lt. Cmdr. Mark H. Westendorf, USNR; and his parents, Edmund Joseph and Florence Kaye Westendorf.

Survivors include: his daughters, Angela W. Averitt and Jammye W. Schwartz; his former wife, Ann Hawkins Westendorf Meyers; his grandsons: Alex Averitt, Zack Westendorf and James Michael Westendorf; his granddaughters: Abigail Schwartz, Julia Schwartz, Katherine Averitt and Victoria Averitt and his sister, Doris Watson.
