The Pearl River County Board of Supervisors once again tabled a vote on the Anchor Lake Road project at Monday’s meeting.

The board is scheduled to vote on whether to acknowledge Mississippi Department of Transportation’s renewal of the project for the next four years at the June 16 meeting.

County Engineer Les Dungan said MDOT publishes a list of projects every four years and needs the supervisors to vote whether to continue with the project or cancel it.

Dungan said his understanding of the situation is that if Pearl River County chooses not to move forward with the project then the earmarked money will revert back to MDOT.

“It’s MDOT’s money and it would go to what project they deem appropriate or necessary and that would not necessarily be in Pearl River County,” Dungan said.

Supervisor Anthony Hales questioned why supervisors Sandy Kane Smith and Dennis Dedeaux want to continue to delay the vote.

“There has to be a commitment one way or the other. Either go forward or kill it,” Hales said.

Dedeaux said he would like to tour the area where the proposed road will be built before voting on the matter.

Dungan said the Simmons, Roach and Mitchell families own property that would be affected by the road.

Board President J. Patrick Lee said the proposed road would alleviate traffic on the smaller county roads in the area, like Lumpkin Road.

Dungan said no homes would be displaced by the project.

Also at the meeting, Dungan asked the Board of Supervisors to accept the Sap-55(14)S county road reseal project.

He said 16 miles of county roads were resealed over the last 18 months as part of that project.

After the project was completed, the state inspected the roads and approved it.

The board voted unanimously to accept the project.

A bid of $8,890 from Global Contractor Inc. to clean up an illegal dumpsite was accepted by the board.

The illegal dumpsite is located off Forest Creek Road, said Fire Marshal Albert Lee.

The board adjourned until Monday, June 16.
