JACKSON — Picayune head baseball coach Cayne Stockstill has enjoyed quite a bit of success on the diamond at the helm of his alma mater.

His accomplishments have been recognized by his peers in the game.

Stockstill was named the Co-head coach for the South team in the larger school classification game for today’s annual Crossroads Diamond Club All-Star Game.

“It’s an honor to be selected to coach in this game,” Stockstill said. “The game is something that players and coaches from across the state strive to be a part of each year.”

The 41st annual affair takes place at Smith-Wills Stadium in this Capital City. The 4A/5A/6A games will start at 1 P.m., followed by the 1A/2A/3A contest at 5:30. Each game will be nine innings. Tickets are $10.00 per person and will be available at the gate.

The North 1A/2A/3A coaches are Will Lowrey of Tupelo Christian and Steve Chambliss of Independence. The South 1A/2A/3A coaches are Craig Martin of Sebastopol and Miller Todd of Madison St. Joseph.

The North 4A/5A/6A coaches are Lee Boyd of New Hope and Rob Scarbrough of Corinth.

In addition to Stckstill, Ryan Neely of Mendenhall will also coach the South team in the larger school game.

In the 1A/2A/3A game at Smith-Wills Stadium in Jackson in 2013, the South beat the North 4-1 in 10 innings to increase their overall series lead to 15-13.

In last year’s 4A/5A/6A contest, the North claimed their second straight win in the series which the South still leads by an 18-11 margin.

George County pitcher Justin Steele and pitcher/outfielder Logan Robbins are among four Coast players chosen Stockstill’s South team..

Steele and Robbins were joined by Gulfport pitcher Daniel Keating and Stone second baseman Justin Smith on the 4A/5A/6A South team.

Steele, a Southern Miss signee, went 5-1 with an 0.98 ERA and 92 strikeouts in 43 innings this past season for the Rebels. The 6-foot-2 left-hander pitched two no-hitters, and also batted a team-best .418 with two home runs and 20 RBIs as a senior.
