Nationally on the political front, Senator Marco Rubio delivered a speech on Tuesday, May 13 about the retirement system in the United States.

Florida Senator Rubio is proposing an overhaul of federal programs to help younger workers save for retirement as well as protecting programs for older voters within the system they have retired under after ending their careers.

Rubio’s system would make it easier for lower and middle class voters to plan for their retirement years in the public and private sector.

Rubio, who recently addressed poverty, higher education and economic growth in policy speeches, is anticipated to make a run for the White House in 2016.

Rubio has spoken privately to the Republican National Committee recently. Senator Rubio made his first trip to early nominating New Hampshire (Huffington Post, May 13, 2014). Watch this star rise as he has the charisma and knowledge to be a formidable opponent in 2016.

Statewide Governor Bryant signed a package of three law enforcement measures into law.

The package includes bills to fund a state trooper school, additional assistance district attorneys and DNA testing for certain violent offenders. As promised, Governor Bryant is moving forward with helping ensure public safety.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol Cadet class 61 will be held in November 2014 and they will accept 75 cadets.

The goal is to graduate 60 new troopers in the spring of 2015. Applications are available at the department of Public Safety at 1900 East Woodrow Wilson Blvd, Jackson and district Highway Patrol offices. A potential applicant may also call 601-987-1264 to have an application mailed.

Locally the Republican Women of Greater Picayune will be hosting their spring luncheon on Friday, May 16 at 11:30 a.m. at Paul’s Pastry.

Mayor Ed Pinero will give an update on the City of Picayune. Congressman Steven Palazzo will be in attendance as well as several other incumbents and candidates for the June Republican Primary.
