Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Mrs. Helena Fuente Smith, 86, of Hattiesburg, Miss.

She passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Emeritus Assisted Living.

Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith retired as bookkeeper from USM Cook Library and was a long time former bookkeeper for Quick and Grice Butane Gas Co. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mrs. Smith served as past president for the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in the 1970’s.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Richard Reginald Smith; her parents, Lee and Mildred Fuente; two sisters, Annie Lee Knight and Ursula Stockstill.

She is survived by: two daughters, Imelda Carter (Bill) of Charlottesville, Va., and Barbara Bennett (Herb) of Hattiesburg; two sisters, Mabel Ekes of Richardson, Texas and Barbara Vander Vlies of Garland, Texas; two brothers, Noel Fuente of Hattiesburg and Eddie Fuente of Madison, Miss.; five grandchildren: Richard and Craig Carter, Jessica and Christine Boehmer and Matthew Bennett.

Memorials may be made to The Sacred Heart Catholic School Tuition Fund for needy Catholic students.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday with a Rosary Prayer Service being held at 5 p.m. at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home in Hattiesburg.
