Visitation will be Friday, May 23, 2014 from 6- 9 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home.

Burial will be in New Palestine Cemetery under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home.

The Rev. Allen Hickman will officiate the service.

A native of Logan, W.Va., he was a retired US Army Vietnam Veteran. After retiring, he went to work for the Picayune Police Department. Charles attended Resurrection Life Worship Center, was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a kind-hearted generous man who was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. According to Charles’ last conversation with his son, “Family is everything you have. Take care of your family. Be proud of your name, respect is everything.”

The family asks for everyone who knew Charles to please come out to the funeral and show your respect. I know he would appreciate a good showing of respect for a Vietnam Veteran and a local Law Enforcement Veteran. If you cannot attend, please remember us in your prayers.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Carmel Esque and Hazel Gertrude Johnston Esque Ellis; two grandchildren, Scott and Jessica Thornhill.

Survivors include: his loving wife of over 43 wonderful years, Jeanette Louise Smith Esque; two daughters, Angela Dawn Esque Thornhill and husband Jeff, Lisa Marie Esque Villa and husband Abraham; two sons, Sean Carmel Esque and wife Stacey, Charles Henry Esque Jr. and wife Jessica; nine grandchildren: Veronica, Devin, Sharon, Jaycee, Charles III, Cameron, Robert, Sierra, and Allie; two great-grandchildren, Madalina and Jeremy; and a brother, Rolland Carmel Esque and wife Deborah.
