The Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department has arrested a man after he attempted to cash stolen checks, said Chief Deputy Shane Tucker.

The checks were taken from a business located on the 100 block of W. Union Road that had previously been broken into several times, Tucker said.

A separate suspect has been charged for one of the burglaries, Tucker said.

He said through their investigation, the sheriff’s department believes the two stolen checks were taken during one of the previous burglaries.

On March 31, Luke Colby Frierson, 29, of 161 Frierson Rd., went to First National Bank of Picayune to try and cash a check for $2,500, Tucker said. He said the teller became suspicious the check and spoke with the bank manager.

While the teller was speaking with the manager, Frierson left the bank, Tucker said.

A short time later, Frierson tried to cash the second check for $1,500 at American Check Cashing in Picayune. Once again the teller realized there was an issue with the check and notified the sheriff’s department.

Detective Marc Ogden with the sheriff’s department requested a Picayune Police Department officer detain Frierson until Ogden could arrive,Tucker said.

Frierson was then taken into custody by the sheriff’s department and charged with two counts of uttering forgery and one count of conspiracy to commit forgery, Tucker said.

Tucker said, both of the recovered checks were from the business on W. Union Road.

Frierson is being held at Pearl River County Detention Facility on a $25,000 bond, Tucker said.
