The Street Festival will go on, despite rain in the forecast.

Rainy weather is expected this weekend, and while Picayune Main Street Inc. manager Reba Beebe said there have been a number of booth cancellations because of that fact, vacancies were quickly filled by vendors placed on a waiting list.

Picayune Street Festival Co-chair Eileen Baker said most attractions and vendors will still attend the festival, so bring an umbrella for the rain and a plastic bag or tarp to protect purchases.

Rain or shine, youngsters will enjoy the fun jumpers, the rock wall climb, hamster ball and a pedal powered toy train ride.

Saturday, fans of the reality television show Moonshiners can meet Mike “Mud Dog” Mitchell and purchase a t-shirt from him at April’s on U.S. 11, Beebe said.

Community members will get a chance to witness their local United Way pledges at work during the festival. Beebe said Pearl River Central’s Beta Club students will set up on top of a U-Haul where they will stay awake for two days in exchange for $2,500 in United Way donations.

Adults may want to stop by the beer garden on West Canal Street. Two booths will feature a preview of upcoming Picayune attractions. One booth will demonstrate a planned haunted house, while the second will inform people about the Teddy Bear Museum expected to open later this year.

A stage next to Robinson Electric on East Canal Street will feature two days of live entertainment, including dance performances, martial arts demonstrations and plenty of live music.

So, don’t let a little rain deter you from enjoying all the Street Festival has to offer.
