Picayune will have to wait a little bit longer for a chance to wrap up the Region 7-5A baseball title.

The Maroon Tide was scheduled to take on league rival Stone County on the road Tuesday night, but that game was postponed due to wet field conditions. The teams will try and play in Wiggins again Thursday night at 7 p.m.

Stone is slated to meet West Harrison today before playing Picayune Thursday. The Tomcats and Hurricanes were rained outMonday night.

“It’s just one of those things you have to adjust to this time of year,” Picayune head coach Cayne Stockstill said.

Picayune needs a win over Stone County to capture the Region 7-5A title. Picayune stands 5-3 in league play after falling to West Harrison 5-2 Friday night. Long Beach is also 5-3 in the standings, while Stone stands 4-3.

Long Beach was scheduled to host West Harrison Tuesday night as well to wrap up district play. The Hurricanes have only the lone win in league play over Picayune, and have been eliminated from playoff contention.

With a loss to the Tomcats in their region finale, the Maroon Tide could drop to as low as the third seed.

Both Pearl River Central and Poplarville were still slated to play Tuesday night as of press time.

Pearl River Central can wrap up the Region 6-5A championship with a win either Tuesday or Thursday over Brookhaven. The Blue Devils hosted the Panthers Tuesday and travel to Brookhaven Thursday. The Panthers, who lost 8-6 to PRC two weeks ago, need a sweep to prevent head coach Neil Walther’s squad from winning the league crown.

For Poplarville, the Hornets were  tied at 5-3 in the Region 8-4A race with both Pass Christian and Vancleave enteringTuesday night’s action.  St. Stanislaus is 10-0, and has wrapped up the league crown, so it comes down to the three teams that are tied for second place vying for a pair of playoff spots.

Poplarville plays Vancleave twice this week, while Pass plays SSC twice. The Hornets travel to Vancleave tonight, before hosting the Bulldogs Thursday night.

Poplarville split with Pass Christian, and the Pirates have already split with Vancleave.
