WIGGINS — Picayune clinched a Class 5A South State baseball playoff berth Thursday night.

The Maroon Tide struck early and never trailed, taking a 5-3 win over homestanding Stone County in Region 7-5A action. The win, along with Long Beach’s 2-1 win over West Harrison, not only secured a postseason bid for Picayune but Stone and Long Beach as well.

“It’s always a goal we set for ourselves every season,” Picayune head coach Cayne Stockstill said. “It’s nice to be in, but we’ve got a lot of work left to do and a long way to go.”
