Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Little Providence Baptist Church. The Rev. Donald Parker will officiate at the service. The Rev. Kevin Hart is Pastor.

On April 8, 2014, God sent one of his angels to begin her peaceful journey home.

Dorothy Mae Bell was born to the late Pastor Thomas Jordan Newkirk and Mary Ellen Sellers-Newkirk on February 3, 1939, in Picayune, Miss. She was the youngest of 10 children: Jamie E. Mitchell, Daisy A. Newkirk and Esther B. Newkirk, Masalyn Cooley, Mattie Thomas, Mary W. Blakely, Carletha J. Newkirk, Eddie Hurie Newkirk, Lester Thomas Newkirk and John Thomas Newkirk.

She was class valedictorian at Valenda C. Jones High School.

She left Picayune, Miss., at the young age of eighteen years old. She began working at Montgomery Wards where she then met her husband, Farrell A. Bell. They were married in union on February 28 1959. Dorothy was the loving and devoted mothers of three beautiful children; Adrienne Winchester (Steven), Gregory Bell (Kimberly), and Gary Bell (Kenya).

Dorothy was united in fellowship at Zion Lutheran Church where she was an active member for 42 years. She loved to sing and was an active choir member.

Dorothy had many passions. She loved to cook. We could easily go to her house and eat gumbo, red beans & rice, bread pudding and other southern cuisine. She was an enthusiastic seamstress.

She is survived by her husband, Farrell A. Bell; daughter, Adrienne (Steven) Winchester; sons: Gregory (Kimberly) Bell and Gary (Kenya) Bell; her five beloved grandchildren: Challis, Farrell, Cheaney, Geoffrey, and Garyn; and her beloved dog, Bunni.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Little Providence Baptist Church Cemetery, Catahoula Community.
