This weekend, residents of Pearl River County will have the opportunity to support two worthy causes and have fun at the same time.

On Saturday, the Pearl River Community College softball team and Pearl River Central High School softball team will each host cancer awareness games.

The Lady Wildcats will face off against Co-Lin Community College at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to help raise money for their coach, Leigh White.

In September White was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, so her players decided to devote their annual cancer awareness game to her and at the same time raise awareness about Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

T-shirts sporting the Lady Wildcat’s cheer, “Fight for White” are on sale at the Poplarville and Hattiesburg campuses. The shirts will also be sold before Saturday’s game. Barbecue plates from Stonewall’s will also be available for purchase as part of the fundraiser.

Community support would be especially significant to the Lady Wildcats since this is a cause that hits close to home.

The team is like family and this year they are fighting to help one of their beloved members.

At 11 a.m. on Saturday, the Pearl River Central High School softball team will host their pink out game as a fundraiser for breast cancer awareness.

The game is a special event for the girls because while raising money for a great cause, they will be facing off against rivals, Picayune High School.

Special pink shirts will be sold at the game to help raise funds for their cause.

The team will also take time during the game to acknowledge members of the community who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

These games will not only provide a way for the community to come together and support these efforts, it is a great opportunity to spend time with your family and enjoy the nice spring weather.
