Take me out to the ball game

March came in like a lion and will hopefully go out like a lamb.

For the few days this month when the weather hasn’t dropped 40 degrees in a 24-hour period, I’ve taken the opportunity to spend time outdoors in whatever way possible.

Usually I will sit out on my porch and read a good book, take a walk or even drive with the window down to experience the beautiful weather.

But this year I’ve reverted back to how I spent nice spring days when I was a child, watching baseball.

Pearl River County is a great place to find a baseball or softball game and of course cheer for the home team.

With three school districts, each with junior varsity and varsity baseball and softball teams, I’ve had plenty of opportunities to catch a game.

A few weeks ago, I watched rivals Picayune and Pearl River Central boys face off.

Even though the temperatures dipped into the low 40s that night, I enjoyed wrapping myself up in a blanket, watching the action on the diamond and the interaction of the students.

It brought me back to high school, when sports games were merely social events and I had no interest in the outcome of the game.

It was also great to see all the people come out to support the two teams despite the temperatures.

Some even brought small propane heaters and I’m not going to lie, I envied them at times.

I look forward to temperatures continuing to stabilize and warm up.

Maybe soon, I’ll get to catch a game when the breeze is blowing lightly and the temperatures are in the high 60s.

In my opinion that is perfect game weather.
